It is an entirely different type of leather, but it is actually a lot easier to break in than most other types. My uncle would always wet his with a lawn hose and then take the jacket and throw it in the clothes dryer on light heat for a long time. As it shakes around in there it will break in very easily. If you want to be sure that it breaks in take a few pillows and wrap the jacket around them as if it were wearing it, then shove it in the dryer.
